Highland girls basketball team

After receiving a first-round bye for winning the District 12-1A championship, the Highland girls basketball team begans the playoffs Friday. The Lady Hornets faced Balmorhea at Big Lake’s Reagan County High School in a Class 1A area-round game. The team members (who are pictured in no particular order) are Kailee Hall, Hannah Allen, Madison Moseley, Hannah Kirby, Sydny Helbert, Kellse Cornett, Reann Robinson, Kaylee Martin, Emily Hamilton, Kelsi Johns, Bailey Garrett, Sabrina Romero, Karlie Allen, Summer Huizar, Holly Bradbury, Shelby Harris, Katie Pantoja and Cheyanna Petty.

Spring tennis starts

Sweetwater High School began its spring tennis season with a dual match at Clyde, followed by a one-day tournament this past Friday held at San Angelo Lake View.

Mustangs end with big run but Lobos hang on

Until the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s finale, Sweet-water was on its way to a lopsided defeat at Mustang Gym. Then the tide began turning for the home team, starting with a free throw with 7:27 to play by Jacob Peyton that cut Levelland’s lead to 71-41.

Roscoe, Blackwell boys end with a loss

The Roscoe boys bas-ketball team ended its season on Tuesday with a 54-36 loss to Stamford.
In 14-1A, Blackwell’s boys lost to Bronte 53-20 in their finale to go 0-14 in district and 3-16 over-all.

Basketball, softball and baseball teams to all play here today

Sweetwater High School will have teams from three sports playing here today.
All three SHS boys bas-ketball teams will be hosting Levelland, starting with the freshmen at 5 p.m. fol-lowed by the JV at 6:30 and the varsity at 8 p.m., in their respective season finales.
The SHS softball team will begin its season by hosting Colorado City at 6 p.m. at Jerry Collins Complex. Also today, the Sweetwater baseball team will scrimmage Midland Lee at 5 p.m.

Kentucky came out and took care of business against one of the SEC cellar dwellers. The Wildcats opened up a 25 point lead before the half was over and then put in in cruise control for the second half. Willie Cauley-Stein led the balanced scoring effort by Kentucky with 14 points.
