McCoy powers 10-11 year-olds past WF

WACO - Sweetwater’s 10-11 year-old all-stars used a 16-hit attack to crush Wichita Falls, 14-5, in Wednesday’s opening game of their Texas West Section 2 Little League tournament.
Sweetwater now faces Fort Worth University at 8:15 p.m. today and needs another win to move into the semifinals. If Sweetwater wins today, it will play Waco Midway at 8:15 p.m. Friday; if Sweetwater loses today, it will play The Colony at 6 p.m. Friday.

Senior League stars hold on for 3-2 victory

GARLAND - Sweetwater’s Senior League (ages 15-16) all-stars built a 3-0 lead against Dallas Wylie in Thursday’s opening game of the Texas West Section 2 Little League tournament, then held off a late rally for a 3-2 win at the South Garland field.
Sweetwater will now play Waco Southern in the semifinals at 8:30 p.m. today. The winner advances to Saturday’s championship game, while the loser plays an elimination game at 7:30 p.m. Friday and can still advance to Saturday’s title contest with a victory.

Plowboy Camp set July 18-20

A Plowboy Football Camp in Roscoe led by the Roscoe football coaching staff will be held Monday through Wednesday, July 18-20 at the Roscoe practice field.
The camp is for students entering grades 2-9 and is from 9-11:30 a.m. each day. Registration for the camp begins at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 18 at the Roscoe practice field. Pre-registration is encouraged to help with ordering camp T-shirts. The $25 cost includes a T-shirt.

Mustang Football Camp is set for July 18- July 20 at Bowl

The 2011 Mustang Foot-ball Camp has been scheduled for Monday through Wednesday, July 18-20 at Mustang Bowl.
The camp will be for students who are entering grades 4-9. The hours for this year’s camp are 6-8 p.m. each day. Registration for the camp begins at 5:40 p.m. on Monday, July 18 and no pre-registration is necessary. The cost is $30. Checks should be made payable to Mustang head football coach Craig Slaughter.

Only a handful of teams are good enough to make it to the sectional round of Little League all-star play each summer.
But not only does Sweet-water have a pair of teams going to sectionals, most of the players on those teams have been there before.

Sweetwater’s 11-4 victory over Wylie on Tuesday in the second — and final — 10-11 year-old District 5 Little League All-Star championship game at Sweetwater’s Major League Field represented a true “team” effort.
Nine of the 12 players had hits, and the three who didn’t not only reached base but also scored a run.

After suffering their first loss on Friday, Sweetwater’s 10-11 year-old Little League all-stars have rediscovered the magic that has them one win away from going to a sectional tournament for the second straight year.
Sweetwater, which fell to the losers bracket after an 8-6 defeat Friday against Wylie in the semifinals, got some sweet revenge with a 7-5 victory when the teams met again on Monday in the championship game at Sweetwater’s Major League field. Since both teams now have one loss, they will meet again at 7 p.m. today to decide the District 5 title at the same location.

After storming past their first two opponents, the Sweetwater 10-11 year-old all-stars looked to be on their way to another convincing win on Friday when they led 4-1 after the first 1 1/2 innings against Wylie. But one dramatic hit — a grand slam homer by Wylie’s Conner Carlton — changed all that as the visitors rallied to defeat Sweetwater, 8-6, in their District 5 semifinal at Sweetwater’s Major League field that sent Wylie to Monday’s title game.

Two SW teams are eliminated

Sweetwater’s 9-10 and 13-14 (Junior League) all-star teams were eliminated Friday from their respective District 5 tournaments after losing for the second time, leaving the 10-11 year-0ld team as the lone survivor.
On Thursday, the 11-12 year-olds were eliminated after losing to Snyder 13-3.

A Lady Mustang Basketball Camp will be held June 3-6 at the middle school gym on 305 Lamar Street....
