Highland finishes with win

November 7, 2011

After an oh-so-close loss last week, Highland ended its 2011 football season on Friday with a 48-33 victory over Hermleigh.
The Hornets rallied from a 14-6 deficit with a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter for a 20-14 halftime lead, and never trailed again as they finished 3-7 overall and 1-2 in District 6, Divi-sion I six-man play.

Roscoe, Blackwell end seasons on losing note

November 7, 2011

The 2011 football season ended for Blackwell and Roscoe on Friday, and both finished rebuilding years on a losing note.
Roscoe had its best de-fensive effort of the year, but lost 12-2 at Rotan to finish a winless campaign at 0-10 (0-5 in District 7-1A, Division II). Roscoe led 2-0 after a first-period safety when Eric Padilla recorded a tackle in the end zone, but Rotan scored the next 12 points and held on for the win.

Snyder, Wylie are 1-2 in 5-3A

November 7, 2011

Snyder easily defeated Big Spring 49-7 Friday for the outright District 5-3A title, while Wylie took the No. 2 spot with a 36-16 win over Brownwood and will be the district’s Division I (big school) representative. Snyder and Brownwood will be in the Division II playoffs.
In District 7-1A, Divi-sion II, Crosbyton won the outright title by beating Ralls 49-21. Hamlin and Ralls claimed the other two berths. Hamlin was a 67-26 winner over Roby in its season finale.

Here’s hoping 2012 brings more success

November 3, 2011

There is always excite-ment and hope that good things will happen when the high school football season rolls around in August, and in that sense, at least, 2012 has been like any other year. This time around, there was hope that Nolan County’s four teams would all exceed the expectations — in this case, the lack of expecta-tions — of the so-called ex-perts. However, it hasn’t happened. In fact, victories have been hard to come all year while the losses have piled up. Only Sweetwater (4-6) has won more than twice.
