Dylon Adames is the Football Player of the Week for Sweetwater. Adames is a 195-pound senior who has been the starting center on the Mustangs’ offensive line the past three years. In last week’s 28-6 win over Big Spring, he blocked a field goal attempt, had one QB pressure and assisted on one tackle.

V’ball teams pick up split vs. B-Spring

Sweetwater got a split de-cision against Big Spring in sub-varsity District 5-3A volleyball action this past Friday at Mustang Gym.
The Sweetwater freshmen beat Big Spring 16-25, 25-21, 25-22 in their match, while Sweetwater’s junior varsity lost to Big Spring 21-25, 22-25.

Mustangs stop Steers, end 5-3A drought

It wasn’t as easy as the final score might suggest, but the “drought” is over for Sweetwater. And so is a three-game losing streak.
Friday’s 28-6 win at Mus-tang Bowl over Big Spring was the first for Sweetwater since becoming a member of District 5-3A and finally halted a nine-game streak in district play that dated back just over two years.

Roscoe, Blackwell still looking for W

Roscoe’s Plowboys easily had their best defensive effort of the season. At the same time, the Blackwell Hornets had a season-high point total in their contest.
Yet both teams are still in search of their first victories despite those milestones, as they are now 0-7 overall.
Roscoe (0-2 in district) did not allow a point over the final three periods but also failed to score against Roby in a 14-0 defeat.
Chris DeLeon ran for 70 yards and also recovered a fumble for the Plowboys.

JV teams lose at B-Spring

Sweetwater’s JV teams traveled to Big Spring on Thursday and lost both games. Both teams will play their final home games when they enter-tain Snyder this Thurs-day starting at 5 p.m.

Sweetwater White got its three touchdowns on a 5-yard pass from Kae-gan Jeffrey to Duanta Williams, a 47-yard run by Jay Lomas and a 17-yard fumble return by Daven Alvarez. Jeffrey ran over a 2-point con-version and threw to Williams for another, while Lomas ran for the team’s other two points.
Alvarez recovered a fumble to lead Sweetwa-ter’s defensive effort.

Lady Stangs’ playoff hopes dim with defeat

October 17, 2011

After coming alive with 25-22 win in Game 3 to extend Friday’s match, the Sweetwater volleyball team was unable to sustain its momentum against No. 8 Big Spring here Friday.
Instead, the Lady Steers — who had won the first two games by scores of 25-15 and 25-16 — came back to wrap up the match with a 25-14 win in Game 4. Big Spring improved to 3-2 in district with the win, while Sweetwater dropped to 1-4.

Netters play LV

The Sweetwater High School tennis team lost 11-8 to San Angelo Lake View on Thursday, but many players and pairings won their matches. The winners against Lake View included Madison Meneses and Heidi Taylor (8-2) and Jenny Medellin and Kristen Casto (9-7) in girls doubles; Chris Hernandez and Isaiah Hernandez (8-6) in boys doubles; Taylor (6-1, 6-0), Meneses (6-0, 6-0), Medellin (4-6, 6-4 with 10-8 tiebreaker) and Casto (6-0, 6-2) in girls singles; and Stephen Shipp (6-2, 1-6 with 11-9 tiebreaker) in boys singles.
