June 29, 2011

Sweetwater’s 10-11 year-old all-stars have been totally dominant through the first two games of the District 5 Little League tournament they are hosting at the Major League field.
After Monday’s 22-0 win over Snyder in its opener, Sweetwater again showed little mercy Tuesday as it shut out Merkel, 12-0, to reach Friday’s semifinals.
Sweetwater will be taking on Wylie, which is also 2-0 in the tournament after an equally convincing 20-1 win over Abilene Southern in Tuesday’s other game.

Nolan County’s four high school football teams will all have something to prove, at least to one well-known statewide publication, when they take to the gridiron for the 2011 season.
At least one school has represented the county in the playoffs for the past 21 years, but Texas Football — Dave Campbell’s legendary magazine — predicts that Sweetwater, Roscoe, Highland and Blackwell will all miss the postseason.
