Lawrence records 1st hole in one

May 22, 2015

Jack Lawrence made his first hole in one ever this past Tuesday while playing at Sweetwater Country Club.
Lawrence was using an 8-iron when he aced the No. 17 hole measuring 133 yards.
Those who were witnesses to the feat were Jerry Berlin, Homer Tay-lor, Fred Waldrop, Jerry Reeves, Rita Lawrence and family dog Bob.

Roscoe shootout, camps set in June

Roscoe Collegiate has an-nounced its plans to hold a girls and boys basketball Summer Shootout, with the dates set for June 11-12.
Also, the Roscoe basket-ball coaching staff is conducting camps on June 1-3 and June 15-17 at the high school gym.

Bratz are 8-under district champs

Sweetwater’s Bratz were the 8-under ASA (Amat-eur Softball Association) District 11 champions this season. They finished first out of 32 teams in compiling a 26-0 record, while winning both the Sweetwater league and the Merkel 8-under tournament.

Lady Mustang camps planned for next month

Two Lady Mustang sports camps will be held in June.
A Lady Mustang Vol-leyball Skills Camp has been scheduled for Tuesday through Friday, June 9-12 at Sweetwater Middle School, while a Lady Mustang Basketball Camp will be held Monday through Thursday, June 15-17 at the SHS gym.

Panthers eliminate Sweetwater

GREENWOOD — Over a two-day period at Midland Greenwood’s baseball field, Fort Stockton did what few teams have done this season to Sweetwater pitching.
Facing a team with an impressive 2.20 ERA, the Panthers scored 21 runs and blasted out 23 hits. On Saturday, they completed a two-game sweep in the teams’ Class 4A area playoff series with a wild 14-11 win.

Wilkinson places 5th in 400 dash

AUSTIN — Roscoe’s Lyndi Wilkinson ran the Class 2A girls 400 dash in 1:01.78 on Saturday at the UIL state track meet as she finished fifth in the event.

Garcia named Lady Mustang Athlete of the Year

Abby Garcia was honored at the recent Lady Mustang sports banquet as Lady Mustang Athlete of the Year. Garcia, a junior, is a four-sport athete who participated in basketball, softball, track and volleyball.

‘Stangs fall 7-4 in opener

GREENWOOD — Sweet-water trailed 3-0 before coming to bat Friday. And after it fought back to tie the opener of its best-of-3 area baseball playoff with Fort Stockton in the fourth inning, the Panthers regained the lead for good with one decisive blow in a 7-4 win at Greenwood High School.
The loss left the Mustangs needing a pair of wins on Saturday to keep their season alive and advance to the regional quarterfinals. A story will be in Monday’s Sweetwater Reporter.
