Weather cancels first day of WBC tournament

The latest bout of ice and snow has pushed the start of Sweetwater’s Wes Bishop Wood Bat Classic baseball tournament back to Friday, and Sweetwater’s JV baseball teams also had the start of their respective tournaments in Abilene and Hamlin moved to Friday, head baseball coach Roland Herrera said this morning.

SHS girls regional powerlifters

Sweetwater High School is sending these five girls to the Region I, Division 2 powerlifting meet, which will be held Saturday at Fort Stockton. Lady ‘Stangs fall despite pitching gem by Espinoza

KERMIT — Despite receiving a superb pitching performance from sophomore Annaliese Espinoza, Sweetwater was unable to find enough offense to back it up Tuesday in a 3-2 loss at Kermit.

‘Stangs smack the Rangers in opener

After losing its first week of play to bad weather, Sweetwater’s baseball sea-son finally began Tuesday at Midland Greenwood — and so did the Mustang offense as Sweetwater smacked 14 hits in a 9-2 victory.

GC rallies past Highland

March 2, 2015

ABILENE — After basi-cally dominating the first two quarters of Saturday’s Region II-1A semifinal over a team they had eliminated in the regional finals each of the past two years, foul trouble and a fierce Garden City press caught up to the Highland girls basketball team at Abilene Christian University. It resulted in a 37-33 loss as the Lady Kats advanced to Sunday’s re-gional final.
