SW girls upset G’wood

January 27, 2014

The Sweetwater girls bas-ketball team is a hard team to figure.
The Lady Mustangs came into Friday’s game against Greenwood — which is in second place behind only Wylie in District 4-3A — with three straight losses of between 23 and 35 points, and a 2-4 record.

Rangers nip Mustangs

January 27, 2014

In a game that was criti-cal for both teams, Sweet-water and Midland Green-wood played it close all the way in their District 4-3A boys game here Friday.
However, for the most part, the Mustangs held the lead — until the very end.
With his team trailing by two, 61-59, Greenwood’s Grant Franklin was fouled on a 3-point attempt with 9.4 seconds remaining and given three free throws.

Highland, Roscoe girls wrap up playoff berths

January 27, 2014

Highland and Roscoe are going back to the Class 1A, Division II girls playoffs after winning Friday in very convincing fashion. High-land blasted Ira, 72-20, to hold on to first place in District 13-1A, D-II at 7-0. The Lady Hornets are 21-2 overall with three games left in the regular season before going back to the playoffs for the 13th straight year.
Roscoe beat Westbrook in its game Friday, 46-22. The Plowgirls are 6-1 in District 13-1A and will host Highland this Friday.

SW hoop teams host Greenwood

January 24, 2014

Things have soured lately for both of Sweetwater’s basketball teams, and both are badly in need of a win heading into tonight’s Dis-trict 4-3A home games with Midland Greenwood.
That’s especially true for the girls (2-4), who have lost their last three games. The boys are on a two-game skid and are 1-3 after losing at Big Spring, 55-45, on Tuesday.

Sweetwater sub-varsity BB results vs. Big Spring

January 24, 2014

Sweetwater’s freshman basketball teams were both winners against Big Spring while the JV teams lost their games on Tuesday.
Sweetwater’s freshman girls are 3-3 in district play after a 47-30 win. Lauren Jones had 16 points and Kaitlyn Foster 13 for Sweetwater, while Jennifer Medellin and Davina Walker had six, Sonya Sanchez four and Danielle Vega two.

Highland, Roscoe girls near playoffs

January 24, 2014

Last year, the Highland and Roscoe girls were 1-2 in the final District 13-1A bas-ketball standings.
With just four games left in the season, it looks like a repeat could be in order, especially if both teams win today. Highland hosts third-place Ira (4-2) and Roscoe hosts fourth-place Westbrook (2-4). Highland clinches a playoff berth for the 13th straight year with a win. Roscoe would also be in the playoffs again if it can knock off Westbrook, which would leave each of the bot-tom three teams in the district with at least five losses with only three games left in the season.
