Sweetwater got its base-ball season off to a roaring start here Monday, crushing San Angelo Lake View 11-0 in six innings.
The Mustangs were near-ly flawless in the three key areas against Lake View.
Ten different players ac-counted for their 12 hits and the 11 runs came from nine different players. Eight dif-ferent players had an RBI. The pitching held Lake View to one hit, a third-inning two-out single. The Mus-tangs were also errorless in the field.
Isaiah McGee completed the rout when he ripped a bases-loaded double with one out in the sixth to score the last three runs. Shawn Campbell, James Clift and Sean Morrow also doubled for Sweetwater and Clift and Ryan Linebaugh each collected two hits for the Mustangs, who had to set-tle for a 7-7 tie at Lake View in their opener last year.
This time, Sweetwater got a combined shutout from starter Kaleb Hoover and Cole Maxwell, who pitched the last two innings.
Hoover struck out four in his four-inning stint on the mound before Maxwell came in to retire the last six batters in order, five of them by strikeout. Other than its hit, Lake View had only one other base runner on a fourth-inning walk and didn’t get past second base.
Morrow began the scor-ing in the third inning when he doubled to score Line-baugh, and Stephen May added an RBI single.
Campbell doubled and scored on a single by Dylan Bennett in the fifth inning to make it 3-0, and Sweetwater had five hits in its eight-run sixth. Clift doubled to score two runs and Greg Aiken, Gabriel Melendez and Maxwell had RBI singles to make it 8-0 before McGee’s double ended the game by the 10-run mercy rule.
Sweetwater will play at Granbury’s three-day tour-nament starting Thursday.
