United Way of Abilene volunteers invite West Central Texas non-profit organizations to submit applications for 2013 community investment by noon on July 12, 2012; applications are available online at www.unitedwayabilene.org. A team of local volunteers will evaluate the mission and strategies of each program within the context of the United Way Community Impact Model, with considerable emphasis on how community dollars can support programs that address student success, family self-sufficiency and basic needs.“People who live and work right here in West Central Texas determine how to mobilize people, community dollars, resources, programs and partnerships to keep our community strong,” said Justin Crowe, United Way of Abilene volunteer Community Investment Chair. “We’re confident that this process creates a vital resource network that will ultimately improve lives for area individuals, families and neighborhoods.”In addition to requiring applicants to demonstrate specific results, applicants will provide information to volunteer teams led by Crowe, Hendrick Physician Practice Manager, Pam McElrath, Hendrick Medical Supply Director, and Corby Flanagan, Condley & Company partner. The community impact and stewardship process involves nearly 100 community volunteers and also includes site visits, presentations and a review of standard practices and financial data.“Our volunteer teams review financial stewardship and program results to ensure community dollars are well spent,” said Dixie Bassett, United Way of Abilene President and CEO. “They spend hours looking at applications, talking to agency representatives and working together to do what’s best for the community.”Applications with specific criteria and instructions are available online at www.unitedwayabilene.org.
