On Friday morning, two residents were doing some work cutting up scrap metal when the grass near them caught on fire, according to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden. "They tried briefly to extinguish the fire themselves, but were unable to stop it with the winds and dryness of the fuel. It took three Sweetwater trucks, one Roscoe truck and their tanker, one Maryneal truck and a maintainer and track loader from Nolan County to control the blaze.   One house was threatened, but did not have any damage other than some slight damage to the horse pens beside the barn. About 25-30 acres burned due to the fire," said Madden.
