Sweetwater middle school football highlights

The Sweetwater Middle School seventh grade Red team was the only winner in season-opening football action this past Thursday as it defeated Levelland 36-0.
Jacoby Hunt ran for five touchdowns in the victory. His TD runs went for 14, 48, 28, 4 and 70 yards. In addition, Hunt had a 63-yard run to Levelland’s 14-yard line to set up his first TD. Jordan McGee had a pair of two-point conversion runs and Daniel Olguin one.
Defensive standouts included Rocky Perez and Tate Rainey with fumble recoveries; Gabriel Salazar with an interception; Hunt with a quarterback sack and tackles for a loss; Jeffrey Ausborn with a QB sack; Isaias with QB sacks and tackles for a loss; Matthew Figueroa, Elijah Escobedo and Olguin with big hits and tackles for losses; Junior Lawhon; Trey Williams; Keevin Houston; Frank Ortega; and Keenan Cox.

Levelland 20, 8th grade Red 14
Adrian Vizzerra (70-yard run) and Roman Acuna (1-yard run) had touchdowns for Sweetwater Red against Levelland. Acuna also threw to Vizzerra for two points.
Defensive standouts included Scott Warner, Michael Lawrence, Mark Lawrence, Vizzerra, Miguel Alvarado, Hardy Escobar, Denzell Moore, D.J. Cam-acho, Branson Guelker, Max Nemir, Michael Hunt, J’Corey Amos and Corey Mendez.

Levelland 6, 8th grade White 0
Sweetwater got inside Levelland’s 10 on Deshawn Williams’ 60-yard run until Levelland held on downs.
Sweetwater’s defensive standouts included Matthew Trevino, Victor Garcia, Trevor Weidenbusch, Adan Sanchez, Spencer Little, Isaiah Gonzales and Kenneth Bohall.

Levelland 14, 7th grade White 0
Tyler Rea had an interception for Sweetwater, but Sweetwater turnovers led to a pair of short Levelland scoring drives.
Though his team was held scoreless, Sweetwater’s Isaac Currie had several good runs.
