The Sweetwater seventh grade Red football team completed a perfect 8-0 season this past Thursday when they traveled to Wylie and came back with a 22-0 win.
Sweetwater got scoring runs of 23 yards by Michael Green, 5 yards by Chris Thompson and 9 yards by Kobe Clark, and Green and Thompson had two-point runs.
Other offensive standouts were Kiante McCoy, Mason Maxwell, Taylor Turney, Jonathan Castillo, Ky Hoover and Andrew Melendez. Thompson (kickoff fumble recovery), Devin Brown, Trenton Hicks, Daniel Avila and Isak Alvarez were defensive standouts.
âWe played a very tough Wylie team and had to work very hard to get the game done,â said Sweetwater Middle School coordinator Tony Cortez. âThere were a lot of great plays, but we had to rely on our offensive line to really get ahead of Wylie on the offensive side of the ball. There were great defensive plays, making huge stops causing Wylie to punt and give the ball back to us.
âEveryone played a good game and contributed to the win. This group worked hard all week to get to this final game, and the hard work payed off.â
