Addie Emmaline Simms Mahoney

Addie Emmaline Simms Mahoney passed away on Tuesday evening, March 1, 2011, at her son’s home in Sweetwater. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Loraine, TX, with Rev. James McLeod officiating. There will be a family visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011, at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City. Interment will be at Lone Wolf Cemetery, near Hermleigh, TX.
Survivors include son, Robert Mahoney and wife Karen of Sweetwater; grandchildren, Robert Mahoney II, Danielle Alcala and Lindley Benson; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Henry Simms of San Antonio; nephews, Robert Wayne Mahoney and wife Glenda of Arlington, Robert Mahoney of Madill, Oklahoma, James Mahoney, Jr. of Burnet; nieces, Glenda Mahoney Patton and husband Bill of Clyde, TX, D’Ann Deusterhoeft McGraw of Vienna, West Virginia, and Karen Covinton of St. Louis, Missouri. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins and a vast number of friends and admirers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George and grandchildren, Chad Mahoney and Melissa Mahoney.
Addie was a long-time resident of Loraine and active in community affairs, there and in Colorado City. She was born March 4, 1923 in Laredo, TX, to Louis Alfred and Emma Seider Simms. Addie married George Lewis Mahoney, Sept. 22, 1945, in Corpus Christi. George was a highly decorated Marine Corps veteran during World War II, and was a long-time auto parts dealer in Colorado City, until his death in 1987. Addie came from a family of true Texas pioneers, including a grandfather, who served with the Texas Rangers from 1881 until 1883. She was the youngest of five children.
Pallbearers will be, Paul Pogue, Tommy Green, Robert Lee Mahoney II, Robert Wayne Mahoney, Lindley Benson and Sean Patton.
Family request in lieu of flowers, that memorial be donated to the Lone Wolf Cemetery Association, 1617 Lowe St. Hermleigh, TX 79526.
