SWEETWATER â The Texas AgriLife Extension Service offices in Nolan and Fisher counties will conduct a program for cattle producers hit by drought and fire from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6 at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex in Sweetwater.Â
âItâs been a tough year with no end in sight,â said Zachary Wilcox, AgriLife Extension agent in Nolan County. âMany of our producers have had a double-whammy due to the ongoing dry weather coupled with the huge wildfires weâve been having.
âThe purpose of this program is to inform producers of the cost share options and management practices available to them to help them get through this bad time.â
Wilcox said the programâs keynote speaker is to be Dr. Ted McCollum, livestock specialist at Amarillo. He will offer ideas on alternative feed sources, management of cattle during drought and dealing with cattle affected by fire.
Representatives from the Farm Service Agency will also be available to discuss the EPC or the Emergency Conservation Program, which is a cost share fencing program and LIP or Livestock Indemnity Program for helping offset livestock death losses.
Individual registration is $10 payable at the door. The fee does include lunch.
For more information/ RSVP by Tuesday, July 5, 2011 so that organizers may obtain an accurate lunch count. Contact Zachary Wilcox at 325-236-6912.
