Alberta Ross

Alberta Ross, a resident of Sweetwater for over 80 years, departed this life on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
She was born on July 10, 1922, to Jeannie Roberson and Clifford Williams in Overton, Texas. She moved with her mother to Sweetwater at the age of three and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington School. She married Wilford Ross in 1942 in Sweetwater, Texas. Born to the union was one son, Robert Leslie Ross.
Alberta was a faithful member of Greater Zion Baptist Church, serving in many capacities: Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher, Mission President and Choir President. During her working years, she assisted numerous Sweetwater families maintain their households. She retired from the Custodial Services Department of Texas State Technical College, Sweetwater. Following her retirement she volunteered at People for Progress Senior Citizen Meals Program.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilford Ross; son, Robert Ross; and grandson Wilford Ross.
She leaves to celebrate her life in love and memory seven grandchildren, Shawn (Denina) Ross; Simeon (Melanie) Ross; Melissa Richie all of Fresno, Calif.; Jason (Trina) Ross, of Pomona, Calif.; LaToya (Clemmit) Myhand, of Ontario, Calif.; Leslie (Lee) Roberts of Round Rock, TX; Michelle Ross (Steve Edwards) of Oklahoma City, Okla., eight great-grandchildren; local relatives Gladys Gerst, Charles Roberson, Phyllis Roberson, Gilda Gerst, Gianna Clyke, all of Sweetwater, and Audria Hammond of Abilene, and a host of relatives and friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Greater Zion Baptist Church at 1 p.m. with Rev. William Jackson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at the Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Webster Williams, George Blueford, Robert Bender, Robert Williams, Ivory Lee Taylor and Walter Blueford.
