Nine Nolan County high school football players â€” three each from Roscoe, Highland and Blackwell â€” received All-Big Country recognition this week from the Abilene Reporter-News in either Class 1A or Six-Man. And two of the players â€” Roscoe receiver Shelton Toliver and Highland defensive lineman Gaga Soedarsono â€” were named to the first team in 1A and Six-Man, respectively.
Toliver, a 6-0, 185-pound senior, caught 78 passes for 987 yards and 17 touch-downs for the Plowboys. Soedarsono, a 5-10, 175-pound junior, had 97 tackles and 12 sacks this season for Highland.
Blackwellâ€™s Jayden Jones and Matthew Lowry earned Six-Man honorable mention at two positions, with Jones making it at running back and linebacker and Lowry named at quarterback and defensive back. Also earning Six-Man honorable mention were Highlandâ€™s Michael Hyde at running back and Shelby Howard on the defensive line as well as Blackwellâ€™s Mason Magness on the defensive line.
In addition, Roscoeâ€™s Cutter Davila at quarterback and Max Nemir at linebacker got honorable mention in 1A.
Toliver was a second team all-state selection at wide receiver by the Associated Press Sports Editors. Lowry earned first team all-state honors and Jones was named second team all-state by the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association.
