All-stars start play at district tournaments
Sweetwater will have four Little League all-star baseball teams competing in District 5 tournaments that begin today and continue through July 5.Sweetwater’s 9-10 year-old Little League all-stars are Harrison Foster, Logan Cornutt, Hector Medina, Cooper Hrbacek, Ricky Dela-paz, Jacob Roden, Jonathan Gallegos, Ector Martinez Jr., Braxton Gomez, Ethan Cortez, Skyler Painter and Jacob Cantu. Rodney Foster will serve as manager of the team with Ray Cornutt and Andrew Medina serving as assistant coaches.The team’s first of two pool play games will be on Tuesday, when it plays Abilene Southern at 6 p.m. in Tuscola.Sweetwater’s 10-11-year-old all-stars are Reese Hayes, Rylan Hayes, Kei Griffin, Sam Spaulding, Blake And-rus, Austin Moreland, Gavin Reyes, Brady Faucett, Rylen Moncada, Nick Cantu, Xavier Frith and Jonathan Sanchez. Randall Rea is the manager and Kelly Andrus and Roman Moncada are assistant coaches.The team’s first of four pool play games will be on Tuesday, when it plays Sny-der at 8 p.m. at Abilene Wylie’s Minor League field.Sweetwater’s 11-12-year-old all-stars are Matthew Hernandez, Taiden Smith, Andrew Medina, Justen Gomez, Tater Burnett, Dar-ian Carr, Markus Meneses, Jose Sanchez, Ryan Romero, Antonio Heredia, Daiman Atkins and Junior Martinez. Benny Hernandez is the manager and Mark Meneses and Stephen Presley are assistant coaches.The team’s first of two pool play games will be on Tuesday, when it plays Wylie at 6 p.m. at Wylie.Sweetwater’s Junior League (ages 13-14) all-stars are Isak Alvarez, Ty Casto, John Clift, Matt Figueroa, Francisco Garcia, Junior Lawhon, John Medina, Hunter Mobley, Javier Olguin, Colter Reed and J.L. Solis. Chris Casto is the manager while Daniel Olguin and Kim Clift serve as the assistant coaches.The team plays its first of two pool play games today, when it takes on Wylie at 8 p.m. at Wylie’s field.All teams advance to brac-ket play, which for most of them will start Thursday.
