Allen, Baucom among 5 honored

Lady Hornets basketball garner Big Country honors

Highland’s 6-1 junior post Sierra Allen has been named to the Abilene Reporter-News All-Big Country girls basketball team for Class 1A, Division II that was announced today.
Also, Highland girls coach Shea Baucom is the Repor-ter-News’ All-Big Country coach of the year.
Allen, the District 13-1A, Division II MVP, averaged 19.2 points, 7.6 rebounds and two blocks while shoot-ing 53 percent from the field this season. Baucom, who returned as the Lady Hornets’ head coach this year after a three-year absence, led Highland to a 31-5 record and the team’s first girls trip to the state tournament ever. Highland made the semifinals before losing to Saltillo.
Two other Highland play-ers, Hannah Allen and Beth Richburg, and Roscoe’s Faith Boren all received honorable mention to the All-Big Country team.
Allen, a sophomore guard, was named newcomer of the year in District 13-1A, Division II. Boren, a senior, and Richburg, a junior, were named as forwards. Borne was offensive player of the year in District 13-1A, D-II.
