Merkel — Alton Glinn Best, 67, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, in a local hospital. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, at the McBee Cemetery in Taylor County with Reverend Johnny Warren officiating, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6- p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Glinn was born Jan. 9, 1945, in Abilene to Alton Adso and Lela Pearl (Walters) Best. He married Debbie Templeton on Oct. 9, 1970. Glinn was a member of Merkel First Baptist Church. He worked for Fina Oil & Chemical for 21 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Glinn was also a farmer and loved to fish.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Best of Abilene; daughter, Lori Best of Abilene; son, Walter Best and wife Rosa of Sweetwater; two sisters, Celestine Rodgers of Merkel, Hazell Taylor of Graford; grandchildren, Jose Juan Chavez, Jr. and wife Rita of Yelm, WA and Leonard Chavez of Abilene; and a great-granddaughter, Amelia Chavez.
Glinn was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lloyd, V.L., Carl Wayne and Welton Best; and a sister, Darthy Best.
