Funeral services for Amos Lee Roberts, 79, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Chris Stephens officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Roberts died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at Hendrick Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 5, 1931, in Ackerly, Texas. He married Billie M. Abbott in June of 2000 in Sweetwater. He lived in Sweetwater since 1967 and Aspermont, Texas before that. Amos owned and operated Frazier and Roberts Well Service in Sweetwater for many years, retiring and then became a consultant for Craruth Energy Corp. He was a member of the Sweetwater Elks Lodge and had been involved in bowling clubs and CB Radio clubs in his early years. Amos loved camping and fishing. He married Noralyn Jean Miller Oct. 12, 1953, in Jayton, Texas and she passed away Jan. 6, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Edward Roberts.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Abbott of Sweetwater; son, Jerry Roberts of Roscoe; daughters, Marilyn Eivens of Sweetwater and Darla Hendrix of Sweetwater; step sons, Tommy Abbott of Sweetwater and Larry Abbott of Dickens, Texas; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; four brothers, Raymond Roberts of Hamilton, Texas, Billy Roberts of Clifton, Texas, Doyle Roberts of Hamilton, Texas and Ernest Roberts of Carlsbad, N.M.; five sisters, Leona Simmons of Hamilton, Texas, Ossie Scott of Hamilton, Texas, Lorine Burleson of Cranfills Gap, Texas, Poly Stepp of Cranfills Gap, Texas and Linda Sue Yates of McGregor, Texas.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Kevin Toland, Tommy Byrne, Zechariah Welch, Chad Eivens, Lamunt Wade and Wayland Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Craig, David Suddock, Tony Palma, Robert Baugh, Mark Douglas and Fidel Zapata.
