The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce has announced its new Executive Vice President and director Leah Andrews. She has been working with the Chamber for four years, in accounting and as a volunteer for many of their programs.
Andrews is a 1990 graduate of Abilene Christian University, a C.P.A., who has a heart for civic leadership and servant opportunity.
She and her husband, Kirby, have lived in the community for almost 13 years and they have four children — Mason, age 17 is a senior at Sweetwater High School; Alaina, age 15 is a sophomore at Sweetwater High School; Carson, age 12, is in the sixth grade at Sweetwater Middle School and their youngest, Kaden, is 10 and in the fourth grade at Sweetwater Intermediate School.
Andrews has been a volunteer at the Chamber in many of its programs and as such developed a love for the community and all it has to offer. She currently serves on the Sweetwater Independent School Board of Trustees and as the Co-Founder of the Sweetwater Backpack Buddies.
“Sweetwater is an amazing community, full of wonderful people doing great things! We sometimes forget that fact because the ‘word on the street' continues to focus on the bad news. One of our goals is to showcase the good that is already being done here, to build on those good things as best we can through assistance and publicity, and to keep our eyes open to events in the future and to all the great possibilities it holds,” said Andrews. “We are hoping to find new and exciting events to help build community awareness, pride and to increase the quality of life for our businesses and our citizens,” said Andrews. “We are also considering resurrecting some old events that have fallen away over the years and in both of these — volunteers will be the key.”
Andrews encourages anyone with a heart for the community to consider volunteering and hopes to hear from many members of the community soon.
Andrews commends the Chamber’s wonderful staff, Cynthia Delgado and Mary Reeves. “We are a great team,” Andrews stated.
She credits both of them with new and exciting ideas such as the recently re-designed newsletter and the ever changing website. “The three of us are on task together to take this organization to the next level and to be poised to serve the membership in new and innovative ways. I feel very blessed to have these women to work on achieving our goals! Good things are coming,” said Andrews.
The 49th Annual Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce Banquet will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex.
