Annual BCWSC meeting slated for April 19
On Feb. 28, 2013 the TWDB approved funding of $7.5 million for the Bitter Creek Water Supply Company to make improvements to its water system. For several years the Bitter Creek WSC has been looking for a more affordable supplemental supply of water. In December 2011, the WSC secured an option to lease 1,274 acres of groundwater rights in the Edwards Trinity Aquifer. After test wells revealed a good quantity of high quality water, the WSC filed an application to the Texas Water Development Board for funding required to secure this supplemental water supply. In addition to securing this new water supply, the WSC plans to make pressure improvements to its system in order to satisfy TCEQ pressure requirements. Also the WSC intends to replace more than 30 miles of old water line which includes water lines with the highest water loss in the system. As a result of the water purchase cost savings, the Bitter Creek WSC is able to make all of the proposed water system improvements without raising its customer’s water rates. It is anticipated that Phase 1 of the construction for the proposed water system improvements will begin in May and conclude in September. Phase 1 includes construction of about 44 miles of PVC water line, one 200,000 gallon water storage tank and six new water wells. Additional phases of construction will continue into 2014 and it is estimated that the entire project will be completed in 2015.For more information, members are invited to attend the BCWSC annual meeting on April 19, 2013, at 6 p.m. in the Fourth & Elm Church activities building in Sweetwater. A meal is provided and door prizes will be awarded to those attending.
