Annual Jamaica slated for this weekend

If you're looking for something fun to do in town this Labor Day weekend, an event sponsored by a group of local churches might be the ticket.The Roman Catholic Churches of Nolan County will be hosting the 2011 Jamaica Fall Festival on Sunday, Sept. 4 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church beginning at noon until 9 p.m.Live entertainment will be presented throughout the day with hour-long performances starting at 2:15 p.m. with local Mexican folk dancer Aida Pantoja. Grupo Silverio will take the stage at 3:30 p.m., with Prodigio following at 4:45 p.m. Team Chip Tae Kwon Do will entertain the audience at 5:45 p.m., with Anjelique — a local who was recently nominated for Best New Female Artist at the 31st Annual Tejano Music Awards — rounding out the performances at 7 p.m.The entire family can have fun as games, food and bingo can be enjoyed. Raffle prizes at the event will consist of ten prizes, with the First Prize being a shopping spree at Home Zone valued at $1,000. Other raffle prizes will be a 50-inch HD TV (2nd prize), a washer/dryer set (3rd prize), and a Canon Rebel digital camera (4th prize.)The fifth raffle prize will be a $500 gift card (winner's choice), while the tenth prize will be a winner's choice gift card valued at $250. In between 5th and 10th place will be a laptop (6th prize), an iPad (7th prize), a Blu-Ray/DVD player (8th prize) and an A/C window unit (9th prize).
