On Saturday, May 26 the annual WASP Homecoming 2012 will begin with an honor parade from Sweetwater Plaza at 9 a.m. to the museum. Other WASP will arrive in the WASP Fly-in at 10 a.m. Joining the Fly-in will be vintage planes from the CAF, Wisconsin and Louisiana, along with modern aircraft. One Stearman trainer is returning to Avenger Field for the first time since WWII.
The luncheon at Texas State Technical College will feature speaker WASP Nell Bright. The day will also provide opportunities to meet these surviving WWII heroines, enjoy WWII warbirds, re-enactors, free plane rides for kids 8-17 years of age, music, a car and motorcycle show ($20 entry fee to compete), Fifi's Famous French fries and Cheeseburger Grill ($7), a sunset memorial service, ground-breaking for the museum's expansion and more.
The highlight of the event is the steak dinner and WWII Big Band Dance at 7 p.m. The Chuck Wagon Gang served 350 supporters at this important event last year. "With the community's support, we will be able to once again properly honor these wonderful American patriots at a gala befitting the glory of Avenger Field," said WASP Museum Director Sharron Davis.
If you are unable to attend, please consider sponsoring a table this year for the WASP or a table to host our volunteers, your friends or employees.
