APD Bomb Squad robot destroys package

February 22, 2012

A tense situation was diffused in front of the Sweetwater Post Office after an Abilene Police Department bomb squad robot destroyed a suspicious package this afternoon.
Officials in Sweetwater were reportedly on heightened awareness following the presence of several protesters outside the Nolan County Courthouse yesterday and its close proximity to the post office.
The package reportedly contained a cellphone.
There were no injuries.

Original Story:
Streets were blocked off in front of and behind the United States Post Office in Sweetwater around lunch time on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012. Police officers and sheriff's deputies blocked the streets and talked to postal workers while an engine from the Sweetwater Fire Department stood by. A suspicious package left outside of the Post Office might be to blame. The Abilene Police Department Bomb Squad is enroute to the Post Office. Visit this site for more details as they emerge.
