The Muscular Dystrophy Association will be issuing “arrest warrants” for many executives and community leaders in Sweetwater, Colorado City, Roscoe, Loraine and other surrounding areas on Wednesday, Feb. 19. As members of the area’s “Most Wanted” these jailbirds are going to be “Locked Up” to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the families they serve. They have all been charged with having a big heart and are heavily armed with kindness! Their sentence is to serve one hour of “hard time” at MDA’s jail site, the Sweetwater Fire Station, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. “Jailbirds” will be picked up by volunteers from the Sweetwater Fire Department in vehicles loaned for the event by Stanley Ford in Sweetwater. While “incarcerated,” they will dine on food donated by Skeet’s Bar-B-Q and Allen Family Style Meals, with drinks being donated by Chicken Express. Brookshire's will also provide volunteers to help with event activities.
This year’s jailbirds are each encouraged to raise $800 in bail in order to be released. This reflects the cost of sending one child to MDA summer camp for a week in Ceta Canyon. The funds raised will also enable MDA to provide the very best in health care services, including clinic visits, flu shots, support groups, repairs to durable medical equipment, summer camp, diagnostic testing and a worldwide research effort seeking treatments and cures for the 40+ neuromuscular diseases covered by the association. MDA’s Red River Chapter currently serves over 400 families affected by neuromuscular diseases.
MDA (www.mda.org) is a voluntary health agency working to provide programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education for neuromuscular diseases.
