Roscoeâ€™s teams split their basketball doubleheader at Albany on Tuesday, while the Highland and Blackwell girls both came away with victories in their respective district openers.
Roscoeâ€™s girls beat Albany 33-32 in a double-overtime thriller to improve to 8-6, but the state-ranked Albany boys easily won against the Roscoe boys, 56-12. Black-wellâ€™s girls beat Veribest 37-10, and the state-ranked Highland girls beat Herm-leigh 44-25.
Lynnsi Moses and Sara Kingston scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, but it took Roscoeâ€™s girls a couple of overtimes to finally get past Albany. It was 27-27 at the end of regulation.Jacinda Morales finished with four points and Faith Boren, Mirian Solis and Torrey Willman two. Jesus Leanos had six points for the Roscoe boys (0-9) in their contest.
In district action, the Highland girls improved to 12-3 overall this season as Sierra Allen scored a team-high 22 points. Kara Hugh-ey had eight, Lora Stewart and Megan Thompson four and Jessica McCain and Beth Richburg three. High-land led 31-13 at halftime.
Amanda Bullard scored 10 points, Stephanie Metcalf nine, Shelby Alley seven, Brooklyn Harris five, Reccie Roland four and Bethany Breux two for Blackwellâ€™s girls, who held Veribest to four points or less in each quarter and led 12-2, 23-4 and 33-6 at the breaks.
