Area girls HS basketball: SW, Roscoe win in openers

Sweetwater, Roscoe girls basketball begins

Sweetwater and Roscoe used big fourth-quarter rallies to claim season-opening wins in area girls basketball action Tuesday.
Sweetwater opened up by going to nearby Highland and the Lady Mustangs won, 42-37, after overcoming a nine-point deficit late in the third quarter. Sweetwater finished the game on a 16-2 run. Kendra Crosson had a game-high 23 points to pace Sweetwater, while Highland was led by Hannah Allen with 10 points and Sierra Allen with eight.
Sweetwater trailed 35-26 until Kelsi Crosson hit a 3-pointer in the final min-ute of the third quarter to begin the rally, then scored the game’s last 13 points.
Meanwhile, Roscoe hosted Eula and prevailed 36-34 in overtime after trailing by 12, 30-18, at the end of the third quarter. Roscoe outscored Eula 13-1 to send the game to OT, then won it with a 5-3 edge in the extra period. Roscoe was paced by Carolina Perez, who scored 10 points, and Eva Aguayo, with eight points.
Sweetwater will return to action when the team goes to San Angelo Lake View this Friday.
Highland and Roscoe play again Saturday when they go to Eula and Coahoma, respectively.
