Area teams begin practice Monday

August 5, 2013

Roscoe, Highland and Blackwell begin practices for the 2013 football season on Monday.
Roscoe, under new head football coach and former Sweetwater assistant Jake Freeman, will work out from 6:30-10 a.m. at its practice field this week. Freeman, a former standout Roscoe player who gradua-ted in 1997, also was a star player in college at Hardin-Simmons University.
Freeman replaces Jona-than Haseloff, who resigned last month to be the head football coach at Morton High School.
Freeman isn’t the only ex-Roscoe player to return home as Greg Althof, a 1983 graduate, will be the new offensive coordinator.
Highland will have two morning sessions, one from 7-8:45 a.m. and the other from 9:30 a.m. to noon, said head coach Jeff Shelton, who is entering his third year at the school.
Blackwell’s second-year head coach Clint Lowry said his team will work out from 7:30-11 a.m. this week.
