Funeral services for Armando Alvarez Acosta, 77, of Sweetwater will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Rev. Wayne Kirk will officiate. Acosta's wishes were to be cremated.
Acosta died Sunday, April 20, 2014 at his residence.
He was born Feb. 6, 1937, in Tynan, Texas. He married Belen Garza Mermella on May 12, 1977 in Lubbock.
He lived in Sweetwater since 1978. He worked in the cotton industry in Lubbock and Sweetwater for over 40 years. He enjoyed watching sports and most of all telling stories of his childhood.
Survivors include his wife, Belen Acosta of Sweetwater; daughters, Silvia Tores and husband Blas of Lubbock, Susan Lovato and husband Pat of Lubbock, Amalia Salinas and husband Larry of Ft. Worth, Irma Acosta and husband Jerry of Lubbock, Elisa Gonzales and husband Jose of Sweetwater, Linda Acosta and husband Cirili of Trent, Yolanda Amaya and husband Jimmy of Sweetwater, Benina Gonzales of Sweetwater and Maria Mermella of Sweetwater; sons, Benino Mermella, Jr. and wife Erica of Sweetwater, Pedro Mermella and wife Janie of Sweetwater, Juan Mermella and wife Louisa of Sweetwater and Joe Mermella and wife Nancy of Houston; brothers, Edward Acosta and wife Rosa of Brownfield and Rogelio Acosta and wife Virginia of Sweetwater; sister, Lucinda Cortez of Mathis; 40 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
