The cold season is approaching. Warm the hearts and hands of children by donating new or gently used coats and gloves. Since 2004, Bahlman Cleaners has collected over 1,000 gently worn winter garments for men, women and children who otherwise would be without one, according to owner Janice Pridemore. Bahlman's mission is simple: anyone in the region in need of a coats shall receive one if possible.
When Bahlman's first started the drive in 2004, it brought in 300-350 coats. "We had so many donations the first year," said Janice. Bahlman Cleaners' Coats for Kids continues to grow each year, but this year donations are lower than usual. However, the cleaners are seeking help from more and more community partners and hope that the results will be impressive. Heather Gesin has joined the effort to collect winter coats this year and has created a Facebook event to spread the word via social media. "I created the event to help spread the word," said Gesin. "The event runs through the end of November, but Bahlman Cleaners will be accepting donations all through the cold season."
Donations of gently worn coats of any size can be dropped off at Bahlman Cleaners, located at 910 E. Third Street in Sweetwater. Gesin can also be contacted at 933-8838 to schedule a pick up time. The coats will be dry cleaned and distributed to those in need in the community.
