Last Saturday six members of the Sweetwater High School Band traveled to Lubbock to audition for All-Region honors. All six students won positions in the All-Region Band. Sweetwater had the third most students out of twenty-eight participating schools.
Students making All-Region were junior Laura Duclos – baritone, junior Briana Rosas – trombone, freshman Clay Kitchens – trumpet, sophomore Stephen Le – French horn, Sophomore Chase Scott – alto saxophone, and sophomore Crysten Ivy – clarinet. The All-Region Band will present a concert at Lubbock-Cooper High School on Saturday, January 29th.
During the fall, All-Region contestants worked on two etudes and 8 scales, refining their music to a competitive edge. “Preparing and performing this music is a big challenge,” remarked Crysten Ivy. “I’m pleased with the results. Our hard work really paid off!”
Three of the Sweetwater students ranked high enough to advance to All-Area competition, which will be held in Lubbock on January 7th. All-Area winners were Stephen Le, Chase Scott and Crysten Ivy. On January 7th, the top competitors will be named as members of the Texas All-State Band.
Finally, two of the students won “first chair honors”, by being ranked in first place out of all competitors on their instrument. These students were Chase Scott and Crysten Ivy.
