Barbara Jean Hanks

April 27, 2012

Barbara Jean Hanks, born Dec. 28, 1927, went to be with her Savior and family on April 26, 2012. She was a loving, sweet mom and devoted wife. Greeting her at the gates was her husband of 45 years, Billy Ray, who left this earth on Nov. 20, 2011. He served in the Marine Corps. Among others waiting to rejoice with her was her dad, George Edward Jocoy and mom, Fannie Elena Dooley Jocoy. Her father-in-law, WWII Veteran, Maynor Benjamin Hanks and mother-in-law, Lila Geisler Hanks, a sister and numerous cousins and friends were also waiting.
We will miss her so very much but rejoice that she is reunited with other family and friends and no longer in pain.
Those of us left behind are myself (the daughter) Elizabeth Hanks Pool and my husband Jerry, who has helped so very much in taking care of my Mom so she could spend her last days at home with us.
She also has a granddaughter, Barbara Close, Senior at SIU and great-granddaughter, Tierney Close, Senior at Herrin High, both in Carbondale, IL. The other great-granddaughter, Ashleigh Close Gromelski, attending Cisco Jr. College, and husband Christopher Allen, reside in Sweetwater and are expecting the birth of the first great-great-grandchild, Paxton Allen, in June.
Also left behind are a son, Larry Hanks, Senior Chief in the Navy, and wife Pamela who reside in Jacksonville, Fla.; a great-grandson, Dustin Hanks, and wife Sarah live in Washington, DC, with their sons Wesley, age 4, and Cooper, age 2; another great-grandson, Ryan Hanks, who has served two tours of duty in Iraq with the Marine Corps, also lives in Jacksonville, Fla.
Many thanks for to McCoy Funeral Home for all their help and support.
May God bless all of you reading this and have a blessed day.
She will be cremated and no further services will be planned at this time.
