Battered courthouse wall to be removed

October 31, 2012

A special-called County Commissioners' meeting was held on Tuesday morning, October 30, 2012.

At the special-called meeting of the Nolan County Commissioners on Tuesday morning, October 30, the only item on the agenda was approved--a contract to remove a battered wall of the Nolan County Courthouse.
Prior to its approval, county attorney Lisa Peterson discussed the contract, though some parts were still to be revised. This project will be completed by an independent contractor between the set dates of Saturday, November 3 through Saturday, December 1, 2012.
The removal is for the angled wall around the base of the courthouse, which is to be removed before any work can be done by Turner Construction, the company selected as the construction manager at risk. All offices inside the courthouse will be notified of the construction, notably employees who come into work on the weekends.
Should any barricades need to be placed during the construction, the contractor will have to give a 24-hour notice to the county. Any use of his own equipment will have to take place after 5 p.m. on weekdays, and during the weekends and holidays.
Additionally, no work will take place on Tuesday, November 6, as to not serve as a distraction during Election Day. Upon removal of the battered wall, the contractor will haul off the removed material.
