The spring season is in full bloom, which means it's the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors!
On Saturday, April 27, Cornerstone Christian School will host "Beat the Street for Little Feet"--a family-fun event that will get everyone active and assist the local school. The function will be held on the school campus, located at the 4th and Elm Church of Christ in Sweetwater.
Melanie Gibson, the children's ministry coordinator at 4th & Elm, stated that because of growing interest in the three activities, the events have been spaced out in their start times. The 50K bike tour will start at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 5K run at 10 a.m., and then a one-mile fun run/walk at 10:30 a.m.
A $25 fee is required to enter each race, and all funds raised from the event will go toward the expansion efforts at Cornerstone Christian School. The campus has continued to grow in number, in which Gibson noted that the school wants to add and emphasize different subjects like art, music and PE, among others.
And while the races take place, various children's activities will be lined up outside the church to occupy the kids. The sand box and playground will be available for kids to enjoy, as well as a bounce house, tattoo and face tattoo booth, finger painting station and sensory tables.
Children can even take part in the fun run--by foot or on wheels--as that particular race is open to people of all ages. Gibson emphasized that the event is for the young and young at heart, with different activities that can meet each family's style.
And while the 50K bike tour will extend as far as the southeastern side of Lake Sweetwater, the 5K will run as far north as East 17th Street. All three races will start and end at the church, and throughout the day, a concession stand will be set up.
Participants can get an early preview of two of the races by visiting www.4thandelm.com/cornerstone. Early registration can also be done through the website or by phone at 325-235-1500.
