Bugs invaded the Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater on Saturday, Oct. 22. Eight Region 14 high schools competed in the inaugural BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) Robotics competition, where Roscoe took home top honors.
Students went head-to-head in the categories of robotics, marketing, exhibits, engineering notebook and spirit and sportsmanship. Roscoe placed first in exhibits, marketing and sportsmanship snagging the overall BEST award, while Sweetwater placed first in robotics. Both teams are now preparing for the regional round in Dallas on Nov. 18-20.
More than 60 volunteers from TSTC and the community worked to bring BEST to West Texas. Terry Blankenship from TSTC, along with her steering committee organized the inaugural bout. Other volunteers worked as judges, score keepers, compliance experts and hosts.
