Donations to the 30th annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive are still being accepted as the drive moves into its final weeks.
The drive will feed more than 14,000 families in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. The food drive is sponsored by Brookshire Grocery Company stores and various service organizations.
"Many families receive assistance through this effort, and every single donation counts,” said Sam Anderson, community involvement manager for BGC.
Donations may be made by placing non-perishable food items in designated bins inside participating stores before Christmas. Items needed include canned meats, vegetables, soups, beans, rice and pasta. Also, grab-bags full of non-perishable items are available in most stores for customers to purchase and donate to the drive.
In addition to the food, BGC will give at least one baking hen to each family assisted.
“The service group and their volunteers, other businesses, and schools all play a huge part in this effort,” Anderson said. “They carry this through, along with our stores, and we are grateful for their time and effort to help their neighbors in need.”
