Nolan County high school athletes begin district competition

Starting today, a number of Nolan County high school athletes will be competing in district competition with hopes of advancing to the next level.
For some, that hope could be realized as soon as this weekend while others may have to wait two weeks or more to learn their fates.
And for the Sweetwater boys and girls track teams, this week will be spent in preparation for their district meets that won’t be held until April 11-12.
The Sweetwater boys and girls golf teams are both nipping at the heels of the leaders after playing the first 18-hole leg of their district tournaments last week.
The girls, who shot 356 on Wednesday to trail Sny-der by just one stroke, play the second leg today in Big Spring. The final 18-hole leg of the 54-hole event will be April 9 in Brownwood.
The boys, who shot 320 Thursday, are three shots off the early pace set by Big Spring and will host the second 18-hole leg Tuesday before the event wraps up April 10 at Wylie.
The baseball and softball teams visit Big Spring Tuesday for district games and go to Wylie on Friday. The Mustangs (1-2) are tied with Big Spring, Brownwood and Snyder for second place. The Lady Mustangs (2-2) are tied with Snyder for second place, while Big Spring and Wylie are both 1-3.
Blackwell’s golf and track teams begin district action early this week, as do the Highland and Roscoe track teams, while Sweetwater’s tennis teams play their district tournament Thursday and Friday at Brownwood.
Blackwell’s golf teams will play the first leg of their district tournament today in San Angelo, while the second and final leg of the district tournament will be April 9 in Baird.
Blackwell’s track teams will serve as hosts for their district meet Tuesday, and Highland will also be at the district meet in Blackwell.
Roscoe’s track teams will have two days of competition at their district meet in Albany, which begins Wed-nesday. After a day off, the district meet is scheduled to end Friday.
Sweetwater’s track teams will go to Wylie for their district meet that starts a week from Wednesday.
