WESTBROOK â€” It took only one half for Blackwell to defeat Westbrook on Fri-day in its season opener.
Thanks to the 45-point rule, it was over at halftime as Blackwell finished with a convincing 52-0 road win.
The Hornets had 294 total yards on 23 snaps in two quarters of work, as they finished the night with 222 yards rushing and another 72 yards through the air.
Jayden Jones was Black-wellâ€™s top rusher with 172 yards on nine carries, and he scored four touchdowns. In addition, Jones caught a 33-yard scoring pass from quarterback Matt Lowry (4-of-10 passing), who also threw a 20-yard TD pass to Wade Allen.
Franck Cano (2 rushes, 21 yards) rushed for Blackwellâ€™s other score. Also gaining rushing yards were Lowry and Ethan Andrews who had runs of 18 and 11 yards, respectively, while Mason Magness (13 yards) and Oakley Anderson (6 yards) also caught passes from Lowry, who is the son of Blackwell head coach Clint Lowry and made his first start for the Hornets at quarterback after tranferring from Panther Creek this past year. Riley Meyer kicked five extra points.
Jones was the leading tackler on defense with seven stops, while Lowry had six tackles, Magness five and Kaleb Edwards and Cano four each for Blackwell. The Hornets return to action this Friday when they travel to Jayton.
