Blackwell FCCLA had a magnificent showing recently at the State FCCLA Leadership Conference in Dallas. There were 3,934 students in attendance.
BreAnne Richardson carried out her duties as the State Vice President of Programs. In addition, she received four scholarships totaling $23,800. She was recognized by the Texas Career and Technology Council as the Best of Texas Outstanding Special Achievement award winner.
STAR Events were also a huge success this year. Adriana Rodriguez and Hannah Coffman competed in the Chapter Service Project Manual with their community service project focused on helping meet the basic needs of the homeless and less fortunate of the Big Country.
Shelby Panzer won first place with her Entrepreneurship project which consisted of a 63 page business plan, a visual aide and a 20 minute memorized presentation.
Krista Clower won first with her Career Investigation project in which she conducted self-assessments to determine the careers that would be best for her. In addition, she job shadowed two physical therapists, conducted research and developed an educational plan to obtain her goal of becoming a physical therapist. During her 10 minute memorized presentation, Clower shared her 32 page portfolio.
Cambrey Lange and Abbigail Sorrells won first with their Food Innovations project. Cambrey and Abbi created an original prototype formula based on specific criteria, tested their product using focus groups and then developed a marketing strategy for selling their product. Using a display they created, the two students presented their 15 minute memorized presentation demonstrating their knowledge of food science, nutrition, food preparation safety and product marketing.
In addition, four students participated in Leadership Enhancement Opportunity testing. Summer Mull scored Gold in the Step One category which is a quiz over the history and other facts related to FCCLA and it's programs. Crystal Chavez and Devin Rasco scored Gold in the Job Interview category and Orrin Sirmons scored Silver in the Etiquette category.
Fourteen FCCLA chapters were nominated for best State FCCLA project, the Blackwell Chapter was nominated as one of the 14. Summer Mull accepted the nomination on behalf of Blackwell.Â
