Blackwell junior high boys basketball

Both Blackwell junior high boys basketball teams ended their seasons recently. The ‘A’ boys team finished as Zone 1 runner-up and was fourth overall in District 12-A, Division II with a 6-4 record.
Blackwell collected two victories each against Paint Rock and Veribest and also defeated Sterling City and Robert Lee, while losing twice to Bronte and once to Water Valley and Garden City. The team also won Blackwell’s junior high tournament, defeating Panther Creek 25-16 in the first round and Olfen 35-17 for the championship. The top scorers against Panther Creek were Harrison Gott with nine points, Wade Allen with eight, Bennie Wester with four and Frank Cano and Matthew Meyer with two. In the title game against Olfen, Allen scored 10 points, Cole Alley seven and Gott, Wester and Cano six points each.
Blackwell’s ‘B’ team finished 2-3 overall and 2-1 in district play. Blackwell defeated Sterling City 26-7 and Veribest 20-7, while losing to Panther Creek, Olfen and Garden City’s ‘B’ team.
Against Sterling City, Charlie Cano had 10 points, McKenzie Davis six, Doug Hardy and Heath Rasco four and Mathew Jeter two while Davis had six, Cano and Hardy four and Rasco, Adam Lopez and Jeter two in the victory over Veribest.
