Blackwell team is zone champion & district runnerup

Blackwell finished 10-3 and was zone champion and second district runnerup in junior high boys basketball this season.
Blackwell had two wins apiece this season against Bronte, Paint Rock and Veribest and one win each over Robert Lee, Sterling City, Westbrook and Olfen while losing only to Water Valley, Garden City and Bronte. Blackwell’s team also finished second at its own tournament with a 2-1 record including wins over Westbrook and Olfen. Blackwell also defeated Bronte 33-20 and 27-13; beat Paint Rock 35-21 and 37-17; easily knocked off Veribest 42-18 and 33-6; and beat Robert Lee (35-10) and Sterling City (40-37) for its other victories while losing to Garden City by just two points. Billy Magness is Blackwell’s junior high boys basketball coach.

Sweetwater Fast Pitch has several softball signups planned
Sweetwater Fast Pitch will have several softball signups for ages 6-under through ages 14-under this month. Signups will be held Thursday, Feb. 9; Monday, Feb. 13; Tuesday, Feb. 21; and Thursday, Feb. 23.
All signups will be held at the Jaycees Annex located on Crane Street. The cost for signing up will $65, and for those with a second sibling the cost will be $60.
All persons are asked to please bring a birth certificate to the signups.
