With six games remain-ing, the District 14-A boys basketball season is barely past the halfway point.
But Blackwell is having a good season. The team (5-3) is a game out of second place after defeating Paint Rock 53-28 on Tuesday, and goes to Sterling City (0-8) today with an excellent chance to record its 12th victory in 17 games. Blackwell got 31 points from Matt Lowry in its win on Tuesday.
The Blackwell girls (2-8) will play spoiler to a Sterling City team that is 7-3 in dis-trict. Blackwell lost to 8-2 Paint Rock just 45-42 on Tuesday, narrowly missing an upset win after leading by four, 32-28, at the end of three periods. Blackwell was paced by Stephanie Metcalf, who scored 21 points, while Hailey Bennett had eight.
Mason Magness had nine points and Ethan Andrews finished with eight vs. Paint Rock for the boys, who trail Garden City and Bronte for the No. 2 spot.
