Blackwell is now 2-0 after a win at Jayton on Friday, but Highland (0-2) lost its game at Sterling City.
Blackwell 32, Jayton 14
Blackwell avenged a 2012 non-district loss to Jayton as the Hornets got three touchdowns from Jayden Jones and one each from Franck Cano and Mason Magness. Jayton (1-1) won last year’s game 56-30, but was mostly shut down by Blackwell’s defense in Fri-day’s rematch.
Jones rushed for 148 yards and also caught a 12-yard pass from quarter-back Matthew Lowry, while Magness (2, 52) scored on a 46-yard run and Cano had a 26-yard TD run on his only carry. Wade Allen and Mat-thew Meyer also caught passes from Lowry.
Blackwell’s defense was very busy as Jones had 18 tackles, Magness 15, Cano 12, Ted Chambliss 11 and Lowry 10. Kaleb Edwards and Oakley Anderson each had four tackles. Magness and Jones also had inter-ceptions. Blackwell plays its home opener this Friday against Rule.
Sterling City 51, Highland 6
Highland used a 47-yard pass from Jacob Richburg to Gaga Soedarsono to jump out to an early 6-0 lead, but after that Sterling City was in complete control, holding Highland to 148 yards.
Soedarsono caught two passes for 51 yards and was also the leading tackler with four solos and one assist. Eli Shelton led Highland’s run-ning game with 41 yards on six carries and Richburg threw for 64 yards. High-land plays its home opener Friday against Loraine.
