Meek Blood Center hopes that the chance to win a Texas Rangers prize package will increase donor turnout at the blood drives on Thursday, Aug. 4, in Sweetwater. One bloodmobile will be parked at the Nolan County Courthouse and the other will be parked at the Lions Club building on Lamar Street from noon until 6 p.m. Historically, blood collections are lowest in August though blood usage remains steady.
"All donors will be entered in a drawing for a Texas Rangers prize package, which includes four tickets to see the Rangers vs. the LA Angels on Friday, Aug. 26, the fireworks show after the game, a one-night stay at Holiday Inn and a $50 debit card. This drawing will be exclusive to donors who give blood in Sweetwater on Aug. 4," said Frances Baker, donor recruiter for Meek Blood Center.
The demand for blood continues to grow, and Meek Blood Center must collect a minimum of 60 pints of blood each day to make blood transfusions possible at 17 area hospitals. Meek Blood Center supplies all of the blood used for patient care at these hospitals which includes Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Donors must be at least 17 years old (age 16 with signed parental consent), weigh a minimum of 120 pounds and in general good health. All donors must present a photo ID. Those who have eligibility questions may call Meek Blood Center at 325-670-2798 or visit the website at www.meekbloodcenter.org.
