Blood donors needed to supply blood for Labor Day weekend

August 29, 2012

Blood drive tomorrow at Sweetwater Spine, sponsored by Meek Blood Center

A blood drive will take place inside Sweetwater Spine Clinic, located at 1413 Hailey, on Thursday, Aug. 30, from noon until 6 p.m.
“Both bloodmobiles are currently undergoing maintenance and are unavailable until the first week of September,” said Frances Baker, donor recruiter. “Dr. King has generously offered the use of Sweetwater Spine Clinic for a blood drive. All blood types are needed to ensure an adequate inventory of blood for the Labor Day weekend holiday,” Baker continued.
Blood donors are needed on a daily basis to take care of patients with a variety of medical needs and conditions. The need for a blood transfusion is usually immediate, and adequate supply of all blood types that has been processed and tested must be available at all times. There is no artificial substitute for human blood. All blood products used for blood transfusions must come from volunteer donors. Meek Blood Center supplies all of the blood used for patient care at seventeen area hospitals covering fourteen counties, including Rolling Plains Hospital.
Donors can enter a drawing for a Texas Rangers prize package which includes four tickets to see the Rangers play the Seattle Mariners on Sept. 15, parking at the game, a one-night hotel stay, and a $50 gas card. The drawing will take place on Sept. 7.
