A blood drive that will benefit Meek Blood Center and the Nolan County Welfare Office Food Pantry will take place on Monday, Dec. 20. Meek Blood Center will have two bloodmobiles parked at the Nolan County Courthouse from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Donors are asked to bring at least two non-perishable food items to the blood drive. In return, those who donate blood will receive a long-sleeve T-shirt and a $5 Sonic gift card.
"This combination blood drive/food drive was Judge Gary Harger's idea," said Francis Baker, donor recruiter. "He recognized the fact that both the blood bank and the Food Pantry tend to run low at holiday times. Most people are in the spirit of giving at this time of the year, so we expect a large turnout."
Donors are asked to register in the Courthouse lobby. The mini-physical will also be done in the lobby and then donors will be directed to one of the bloodmobiles. There will be three ALYX machines available for those who wish to give a double red cell donation. Judge Harger has reserved the third floor conference room for ALYX donations.
Donors must be at least 17 years old (age 16 with signed parental consent), weigh a minimum of 120 pounds and in general good health. All donors must present a photo ID. Those who have eligibility questions may call Meek Blood Center at 325-670-2798 or visit the website at www.meekbloodcenter.org.
