SHS boys golf completes second leg of district tournament

ABILENE — The Sweet-water High School boys golf team is now in fifth place entering Tuesday’s final round of the District 4-3A tournament after a 17-shot improvement in its score Friday at Abilene.
Sweetwater went from a 352 to 335 for a 687 total, moving up one place from the first round. But it lost ground to the top two teams, Big Spring (596) and Wylie (614). Only the top two teams and top two individuals not on qualifying teams advance to regionals.
Sweetwater’s Mason And-rews and Michael Hunt are tied for 10th place among medalists entering the final round with 157 totals. And-rews shot 75 and Hunt 79. Michael Hazard shot 82-171, Mark Lawrence 99-203 and Jeremy Witt 107-211. Sweetwater No. 2 is at 951 and in 12th place after a 439 on Friday. Individual totals came from Blake Cumbie, who shot 101-225; Colton Scott, who shot 116-231; Clay Kitchens, who shot 118-245; and Creed Kinsey, who shot 104-250.
