CROSS PLAINS — It was looking real good for Roscoe at halftime on Friday.
The visiting Plowboys had just finished off a 24-point second quarter, and they led Cross Plains 31-14.
Roscoe’s quarterback, Cutter Davila, had already thrown three touchdown passes, two of them to Shelton Toliver and the other to Max Nemir.
But just one quarter later, Roscoe found itself trailing 43-31 as Cross Plains scored 29 straight points en route to dominating the second half in a 56-31 victory.
Cross Plains (2-0 district) began its amazing run with a 75-yard TD pass. The Buffaloes followed with a 63-yard TD run and extra point kick to close Roscoe’s lead to 31-29. Cross Plains scored on a 19-yard run to take the lead, and tacked on a 38-yard interception return for a TD to end the quarter. Roscoe’s misery wasn’t over, as Cross Plains added a 78-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter and finished with a 23-yard scoring run.
Roscoe fell to 1-1 in district despite Davila’s heroics. Toliver had a team-high seven catches for 151 yards. However, five other players caught passes for the Plowboys — Jesus Leanos (five catches for 49 yards), Kevin Lavalais (four catches for 42 yards), Dillon Free-man (two catches for 17 yards), Nemir (two catches for 14 yards) and Rafael Aguayo (one catch for 17 yards). Nemir also scored on a pair of 1-yard runs and forced and recovered a fum-ble for Roscoe.
Albany, ranked No. 10 in Class 1A, comes to Roscoe this Friday for the Plowboys’ next game. Albany is 2-0 in district and 5-0 overall while Roscoe is now 2-3 for the season.
